Hyderabad: On Monday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged state governments to continue the tradition of having the governor serve as the chancellor of their public institutions because it is a “well-proven structure.”
“From our vantage point, everyone should be involved in this arrangement because education is a topic with many different stakeholders. Therefore, from an administrative and political standpoint, it should be free from any pressures and pulls “He told the local reporters.
It is a “wonderful” and “well-tested structure,” he said, for the President of India to serve as Chancellor or Visitor for national institutions and the Governor to serve as Chancellor for respective state universities.
“Local governments should follow that as well. Unfortunately, they try to create some political issues ” he explained.
He was questioned regarding West Bengal’s decision to replace the governor as chancellor of state-run universities with the chief minister and the possibility that Telangana would do the same.
After dedicating three new buildings at the University of Hyderabad, Pradhan was speaking to reporters outside of an event (UoH).
When asked about some states not following the National Education Policy (NEP), he responded that the Center, which has a federal structure, expects everyone to work together on putting the NEP into practise since it was developed after extensive consultations.
Observing that the NEP policy document talks about increasing the employability of students, he asked what is the objection of any government.
“Teaching, learning method, in the primary level, should be in the local language. Are they opposing the local language pedagogy system in their state? It is up to them to decide,” he said.
“Our goal is to make our students ready for the worldwide market. The NEP is a 21st-century document. There could be a communication breakdown. I’m willing to talk to anyone “said he.
The creation of a new knowledge-based society in the nation, whose responsibility is not only for the country but from a global point of view, was something he said he anticipated would eventually win over everyone.
